Kutná Hora is a town with magical surroundings. Whether you're traveling solo or with children, you'll enjoy the lush gardens, parks, Vrchlický Waterfalls, and even a private zoo. With a population of just 21,000 (according to the 2024 census), the town boasts an impressive number of cathedrals, churches, and chapels. One of its most iconic landmarks is the Church of St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. In Sedlec, a suburb of Kutná Hora, you’ll find one of the world’s most unique churches. History lovers should consider excursion tours that include castles like Žleby, built in the 13th century and later rebuilt in the 19th in a neo-Gothic style; Kačina, a 19th-century classicist estate; and the ruins of Sion Castle. Also worth visiting is the Vlašský dvůr (Italian Court), a former royal palace with a mint and a small museum showcasing the craftsmanship of historical coiners and blacksmiths. The silver mines — part of the Czech Silver Museum (Hrádek) — are a major draw for tourists. The mines, first opened in 985, once produced 55 kilograms of silver per day and sparked a full-blown "silver fever." At one point, Kutná Hora supplied a third of Europe’s silver output.

The miners’ hard labor also fueled the growth of taverns and breweries. Today, Kutná Hora is home to the oldest brewery in the Czech Republic and several private breweries — a perfect excuse to sample beer made from recipes over 450 years old.
